Improved Intraoperative Visualizations to Enhance Extent of Resection


Orin Bloch, MD, Neurosurgical Oncologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago discusses improved intraoperative visualizations to enhance extent of resection for skull base surgery. He begins by addressing intraoperative image guidance during surgery, including technologies used for intraoperative visualization such as stereotactic navigation, intraoperative imaging, augmented reality and adjuvant treatment planning. He then outlines approach selection and goes into greater detail about using Brainlab Adaptive Hybrid Surgery software to determine extent of resection and adjuvant radiosurgery.

All right. Well, thank you very much. Thank you to Brainlab and Novalis Circle organizers for having me here and giving me the opportunity to speak with you today. This talk is gonna be a little bit different than all the other talks we've heard so far. I know this is a radiosurgical conference. I'm a neurosurgeon who performs operations and radiosurgery for these tumors. And we do treat at my institution, many skull-based tumors, meningioma, schwannomas with radiosurgery. But there is always an instance where patients need surgery because of large enough tumors that have sufficient mass effect or...
