Local Disease Control for Spinal Metastases Following “Separation Surgery” and Adjuvant SRS
Yoshiya Yamada, MD, Radiation Oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City discusses local disease control for spinal metastases following neoadjuvant separation surgery and stereotactic radiosurgery. He begins by discussing a prospective randomized trial from 2005 conducted by Roy Patchell comparing surgery and conventional radiation vs. radiation alone for spine metastases. Then, using case examples and data, he goes on to discuss the combination of surgery and radiosurgery for these types of tumors as well as other indications.
