Management News for Patients with AVMs
- Event: 8th International Conference of the Novalis Circle 2018
- Topic: Vascular radiosurgery
- Year: 2018
Reinhard Wurm, MD, PhD from Klinikum Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, reveals management news for patients with arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). He begins by discussing the risk of AVM bleeding at the time of diagnosis with examples from completed studies, including A Randomized trial of Unruptured Brain Arteriovenous malformations (ARUBA). He then discusses, based on the results of these studies, the debate of whether radiotherapy is the right treatment for this indication. He presents observations about the ways in which AVMs are treated with radiotherapy and uses cases to exemplify these points.
