Antonio De Salles, MD, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Chief of Neuroscience at Hospital do Coração (HCor) in São Paulo, Brazil, reveals news in the management of functional disorders including psychiatric disease. He begins by giving a short history of the treatment of functional disorders dating back to the 1800s. He then gives an outlook on technology and methods for future treatments, including advanced imaging to understand and target pathways, lesioning and neuromodulation techniques.
