Ron Alterman, MD, from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston discusses operating room workflows and the benefits of intraoperative CT and Elements software for lead placement confirmation in deep brain stimulation (DBS) treatments. He begins by outlining the “classical” surgical technique for DBS including having to transport the patient to radiology for imaging. He then delves into his institution’s acquisition of Airo intraoperative mobile CT and their use of Elements planning software and subsequent awake surgery with these technologies. He then provides some specific examples of case results as well as his overall data, including a decrease in procedure time, over cases performed.
