Paradigm Shift in Management of Intracranial Metastasis: A Review of the First 1,200 Tumors Treated


Javad Rahimian, PhD, Chief Physicist at the Southern California Permanente Medical Group, discusses his institution’s review of its first 1200 intracranial metastases treated and the paradigm shift that is occurring in the management of the disease. He begins with a general introduction to brain metastases before delving into the specifics of linac-based radiosurgery (SRS). He outlines the planning workflow at his institution with Elements software. Dr. Rahimian then goes into detail about the materials, methods, pathology, demographics, dose description and delivery as well as the overall results of the retrospective study before examining some specific cases.
