SBRT Program for “Radioresistant” Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC): from Genes, Bench to Bedside and Back


Bin S. Teh, MD, Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas discusses their stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) program for radioresistant renal cell carcinoma (RCC). He begins by giving an overview of RCC including how it metastasizes, its incidence and radioresistance. He then goes into detail about their program: From gene expression profiling (GEP) to preclinical in-vitro/in-vivo experiments involving human RCC cell lines and nude mice xengraft models to clinical studies.

It's my pleasure to be here, to share some of our experience with the SBRT program for radioresistant renal cell carcinoma. And we are very lucky at Methodist Hospital for a very unique opportunity because we have a very active GU oncology program and allowing me to share this experiment. The older studies especially concentrate on translational program like Dr. Sorbert [SP] just mentioned. Renal cell carcinoma is a very unique malignancy.
