Deborah Benzil, MD, from Northern Westchester Hospital in New York State discusses spine radiosurgery in the current healthcare climate. Dr. Benzil outlines the advantages of spine radiosurgery then provides a few examples of cases dating back to her first case. She speaks in greater detail about the challenges of this type of innovation, including selling it as a treatment option. She stresses the importance of collaboration with neuro-radiologists, oncologists, regional radiation oncologist and neurosurgery colleagues. Finally, Dr. Benzil makes recommendations about how best to create a spine radiosurgery program in this new era of healthcare.
