Stereotactic Treatment of Brain Metastases with the Novalis in Medical Center Haaglanden: Relationship Between Volume, Dose and Local Control
Antoinette Verbeek-de Kanter of the Medical Center Haaglanden discusses stereotactic treatment of brain metastases with Novalis at Medical Center Haaglanden and the relationship between volume, dose and local control. She begins with a short history of radiotherapeutic treatment of brain metastases and studies that analyze the use of stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) after whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT), radiosurgery alone as well as neurosurgery. She gives a detailed description of the radiosurgery treatment procedure at her institution, including contouring the tumor, dose prescription, procedure planning, localization and verification with ExacTrac Patient Positioning. She then gives an in depth look at the patient demographics, side effects, and overall results of treatment. She concludes that the higher the volume, the lower the dose and the less local control.
